Heart transplant.
Heart transplant procedures have come a long way in just a couple of decades. Once an experimental procedure performed only in selected hospitals, heart transplantation is now the treatment of choice for many patients with end-stage heart disease. Transplant surgeries have become more common because of surgical advances and advances in immunology and tissue preservation—and thousands more patients every year could benefit from heart transplants if more donated hearts were available.
Still, heart transplant is a delicate procedure than requires a highly skilled, experienced team of cardiovascular professionals.
