2010 Performance Report:
Thoracic Surgery.
The thoracic surgery program at St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana is one of the largest thoracic surgery programs in the Midwest. Our specialty-trained thoracic surgeons perform a broad range of thoracic procedures. We are:
- Indiana's only facility performing endoluminal treatment of esophageal and tracheal bronchial disorders
- The only minimally invasive thoracic surgery program in Indiana and one of only four programs using the DaVinci Robot Surgery System for thymectomy and invasive mediastinal tumor excision
- Performing more sympathectomies and robot-assisted thoracic procedures than any other program in the state
- One of only two hospitals in the state to have a multidisciplinary thoracic malignancy clinic that offers comprehensive cancer care by combining a coordinated care plan with the most effective treatments
- Actively involved in local and national clinical research efforts to ensure that our patients receive the latest proven therapy
St. Vincent was the first hospital in the state to perform minimally invasive lobectomies. Our lobectomy volume continues to increase, and our performance consistently compares very favorably with national benchmarks.
