In 2008, there were 603 peripheral vascular interventional procedures performed at St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana. Our interventional vascular services include a variety of innovative endovascular procedures, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty for peripheral vascular disease, thrombolytic therapy, carotid stenting and endograft repairs of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms. Endograft procedures offer significant patient benefits compared with traditional surgical procedures, including:
St.Vincent Heart Center has long been a leader in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) endograft procedures. Of the 168 AAA repairs performed at St.Vincent Heart Center in 2008, over one-third were treated by an endograft procedure and our AAA endograft volumes have increased every year since 2002 (shown at right)
In 2002, St.Vincent Heart Center participated in the first national clinical trials for carotid artery stenting. We meet CMS’s facility standards for performing carotid artery stenting for high-risk patients. The complication rates for these procedures have been very low and compare well with other programs doing these procedures (shown below).
