St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana is the only hospital to be rated #1 for Overall Cardiac Services four years in a row (2006-2009) by HealthGrades, an independent national healthcare ratings company. That ranks us among the very best in the U.S. And it makes it an easy call for you when you need to refer or transfer your cardiac patients.
We have specific steps to streamline the process of a primary care physician referring a patient to St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana or to a cardiologist at The Care Group.
First, you need to contact The Care Group switchboard at (317) 338-6666, Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. When you call, identify yourself as a primary care physician and explain that your patient needs a cardiologist.
If the patient has a preferred cardiologist, you should state his or her name. If the patient doesn't have a preferred cardiologist and the patient's status is not urgent, then the patient will be given to the first available cardiologist who is seeing new patients. An appointment will then be scheduled for the referred patient at that time.
If the patient's status is urgent or acute, then the acute doctor will see the patient at the earliest time possible. The acute doctor is the rounding physician at the time.
