Research and Publications

St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana, The Care Group, and CorVasc continually demonstrate their dedication to advancing cardiothoracic and vascular care by participating in new research initiatives and medical education. Our physician groups have been actively involved in clinical research for more than 40 years.  In 2008, our cardiologists and surgeons were involved in over 60 cardiothoracic and vascular clinical research studies including:

Cardiovascular Surgery

New drug therapies

Congestive Heart Failure

Peripheral Vascular

Electrophysiology

Cardiac imaging

Numerous articles, chapters, and/or textbooks authored by CorVasc and The Care Group physicians are published annually. The following is a select sample of peer-reviewed publications in which The Care Group and CorVasc authored articles have appeared:

In addition to advancing cardiothoracic and vascular care through research and participation in clinical trials, we are dedicated to educating the providers of the future. The Care Group works closely with the Indiana University Medical Center to provide clinical cardiovascular rotations for approximately six medical students each month. This rotation provides medical students with an opportunity to spend time participating in hospital rounds and in the practice setting. In addition, there are, on average, two interns and one resident from the St.Vincent residency programs completing a rotation through cardiovascular services each month. These medical students, interns, and residents are all supervised by a Care Group cardiologist.

In 2003, The Care Group doctors, working with St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, were instrumental in securing accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Evaluation (ACGME) for fellowship programs in general cardiology, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology. The Care Group doctors serve as program directors of these three fellowship programs and many others are faculty members. The Care Group embraces its participation in the training of general and subspecialty doctors through the continuum of inpatient and outpatient care.
